We checked hundreds of businesses. Here is what almost everyone got wrong.
We looked at many small businesses across India. Almost all of them had the same problems. A shop in Delhi, a school in Pune, a factory in Surat — same mistakes. This is good news and bad news. Good news: you are not the only one. Bad news: the law does not care. If your business holds people's information, you are still responsible.
Think about your own shop or office. Do you know where your customers' phone numbers are saved? Is it on WhatsApp, a notebook, a spreadsheet, or all three? Does your accountant have salary slips on his personal phone? Did you check the app where you store resumes? Most businesses say no to all of these. That is the problem. The new law says you must know. You must be in control. Not knowing is not an excuse anymore.
