In most housing societies, everyone has data but nobody is responsible.

Your housing society has Aadhaar copies, phone numbers, visitor logs, and CCTV footage. The committee has some. The admin staff has some. The app company has some. But if someone asks who is responsible — nobody has a clear answer. That is a big problem under the new data protection law. If something goes wrong, everyone will point fingers at each other. And your society could face a heavy fine.
Think about your society's WhatsApp group. Who added all those numbers? Who gave the security guard app access to resident photos? Who shared the maintenance list with the new vendor? In most societies, nobody wrote this down. Under the new law, you must decide clearly — who handles resident records, who manages visitor logs, who controls the CCTV company's access, and who fixes a problem if data leaks. Write it down. One page is enough. Do it this week.
List every place resident data is stored — app, WhatsApp, files, CCTV.
Write one name next to each data type — that person is responsible.
