Your coaching centre may be breaking the new law without knowing it.
You run a coaching class or training centre. You have student names, phone numbers, Aadhaar copies, and fee receipts. Some of this is on WhatsApp. Some is in a register. Some is on a staff member's phone. India's new data law — DPDPA — says you must protect all of this. If you don't, you can get a heavy fine. Does this apply to you? Yes, it does.
Say you run a spoken English class. You have a WhatsApp group with 40 students. Their phone numbers are visible to everyone. That is a problem under the new law. Or your staff shares a student's Aadhaar copy on WhatsApp to verify admission. That is also a problem. Keep student records in one safe place. Only the owner or one trusted person should access them. Do not mix your promotional messages with student files. Clean up old data every six months.
